I’m a software developer at Manheim, a wholesale vehicle auction company and subsidiary of Cox Enterprises. I'm on a team whose focus is back-end microservices and APIs. Our services support the mobile front-end applications that inspectors use to gather information about vehicles as they are checked into an auction. We are responsible for processing and storing this data, as well as providing it to other Manheim development teams via our APIs.
Prior to this, I worked as a Systems Engineer for Turner, a global entertainment, news, and sports media company whose brands include CNN, HLN, TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, and Turner Classic Movies. My responsibility at Turner was workflow automation, and I specialized in workflows involving video transcode, asset management, auto QC, metadata, closed captions, and file delivery.
Earlier in my career I worked in CNN control rooms running graphics and then audio for live news. I went on to work in post production as an Assistant Editor.
From there, my interest in technology led me to the role of Encoding Specialist, where my responsibility was content delivery to Electronic Sell Through vendors such as Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and Sony. In this role I honed my knowledge of video specifications and encoding. It also piqued my curiosity to learn more. Learning became a hobby I greatly enjoyed, and that still holds true today.

I help develop and maintain back-end microservices and APIs. I’m also responsible for test automation. The technologies I use are Java, Spring, Ruby, Cucumber, Git, and GitHub. I work in an Agile environment and participate in traditional scrum ceremonies such as daily standup, sprint planning, and “three amigos” meetings between the business analysts, developers, and QA analysts.
I assisted with web application development as a means to bolster my technical abilities and increase my understanding of development concepts and methodologies. Specifically, I worked on Ruby, Ruby on Rails, RSpec, HTML, CSS, Git, wireframing, test-driven development, pair programming, and other aspects of agile software development.
I developed workflows for Turner's media supply chain by automating processes that involved video transcode, metadata association, file delivery, asset management, closed captions, and automated quality control. Skills and technologies utilized included Aspera Orchestrator, Ruby, XML, REST, SOAP, Telestream Vantage, Elemental Server, Squarebox CatDV, MacCaption, and Interra Baton.
I created web dashboards for users to view workflow status and metrics.
